Bible Verses (Parable, Proverb)
speakest...in parables
(Mat 13:10-16 KJV) "And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in
parables?
{11} He answered and said unto them,
Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
{12} For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
{13} Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
{14} And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
{15} For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
{16} But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear."
desired to see
(Mat 13:17 KJV)
For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them."
kept secret
(Mat 13:31-32 KJV) "Another
parable put he forth unto them, saying,
The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:
{32} Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof."
(Mat 13:33-35 KJV) "Another parable spake he unto them;
The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
{34} All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: {35} That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."
open my mouth in a parable
(Psa 78:2-3 KJV) "I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
{3} Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us."
without a parable spake he not
(Mark 4:30-32 KJV) "And he said,
Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what
comparison shall we
compare it?
{31} It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
{32} But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it."
(Mark 4:33-34 KJV) "And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it. {34} But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples."
husbandmen slew heir
(Mat 21:33-41 KJV)
"Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:
{34} And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.
{35} And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
{36} Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.
{37} But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.
{38} But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.
{39} And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.
{40} When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?
{41} They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons."
husbandmen kill heir
(Mark 12:1-12 KJV) "And he began to speak unto them by parables.
A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.
{2} And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.
{3} And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.
{4} And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
{5} And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.
{6} Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.
{7} But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.
{8} And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
{9} What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.
{10} And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:
{11} This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
{12} And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way."
great supper, and bade many
(Luke 14:15-24 KJV) "And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
{16} Then said he unto him,
A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
{17} And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
{18} And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
{19} And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
{20} And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
{21} So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
{22} And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
{23} And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
{24} For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper."
no more speak unto you in proverbs
(John 16:25-30 KJV) "These things have I spoken unto you in
proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall
show you
plainly of the Father.
{26} At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
{27} For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
{28} I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
{29} His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.
{30} Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God."
proverb, Physician, heal thyself
(Luke 4:23 KJV) "And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this
proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country."
