In the Beginning...
1
When reading and studying a portion of the written word, one first needs to determine if the
literal meaning is or not intended. For in written prophecies the LORD has made known the future. In
some parables, mainly Jesus', I find naratives to be understood by those spoken to. The creation account
is neither a prophecy nor a parable. The evenings and mornings
of the seven days are literal 24-hour days, not eons as the Day-Age Theory might imply. And then too the
LORD God did not create the heavens and earth long before (Isa 45:12, 18) He made (Gen 1:26-27) the first
humans, Adam and Eve (Mark 10:6), as the Gap Theory might suggest differently.
(Isa 45:18 KJV) "...He did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited..."
The earth will be inhabited as we see it until the LORD makes the earth empty and waste and scatters
its inhabitants
(Isaiah 24:1
2) on the day of His fierce anger. When Jesus'
comes again, God prepares the earth for His ruling kingdom
(1 Cor 15:23-28
3).
As for earth's first humans at creation, Jesus said,
"..., God made them male and female"
(Mark 10:6 KJV).
Referring back to the Genesis account during the six days of creation when God created the heavens and
the earth, he made the first man and woman. He didn't create man and the rest of creation separately and
eons apart from each other. Another scripture to help establish that truth is found in Exodus 20:11 where
it says, "For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested
the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it" (Exo 20:11 KJV).
Again, that proves God did it all in six literal 24-hour days.
The Word, Water and Spirit Factors
To help establish that even further, let us look at the word and travel through it in a way you may not
have done before to find some truths. And to prove my points (this will not be a long drawn-out thesis)
I'll continue to give scriptures and references, letting them show the truth. In the beginnings of creation
of the heavens, the earth and Adam
(Gen 1:26-27 4), our physical and new births
(born again), and the Deluge all have the Word, water and
spirit (Psa 104:30) as factors.
The Creation of the Earth
(John 1:1-3 KJV) "In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. {2} The same was in the beginning with God. {3} All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."
First of all, at creation, God spoke (Psa 148:1-5) the word (the seed was planted, it germinated and was
ready to bring forth). The heavens and earth were created or could I say were preparing
to come forth out of the water like a child coming out of the womb. I only say that to show a rational
illustration, because some of the similarities happening at birth are there. This is not to
insinuate that the earth is alive or a living organism, for it neither breathes like humans nor
was it breathed into with the breath of life.
(Gen 1:1-2 KJV) "In the
beginning God created the
heaven and the
earth.
{2} And the earth was
without
form, and
void; and darkness was upon the face of the
deep...."
Genesis 1:1 summarizes for us what God did in the beginning, and then the more
detail of His creation is given in the next verses. (As you read you will
learn that there is no big time gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2.) The Spirit of God moved upon the
face of the waters. He created light the first day, separated the waters on the second day
(the water broke), gathered the waters under heaven unto one place and dry land appeared on the
third day (the birth of our earth), etc.
(Gen 1:2, 6-10 KJV) "...And the
Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters.
{6} And God said, Let there be a
firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
{7} And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
{8} And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second
day.
{9} And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the
dry land appear: and it was so.
{10} And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he
Seas: and God saw that it was good."
(2 Pet 3:5 KJV) "For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:"
The Word, water and spirit are factors in the creation of the heaven and earth. Preparations
for animal and human life were being made in the heavens and on the earth. We will look past some
of the creation detail and go right to the sixth day. On the sixth day God created land creatures
(Gen 1:24-25) and man.
